MY PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY



                                                     My Personal Philosophy

  

        Education is often defined as the acquisition of knowledge and skills. Education plays an integral role in any and every society. The use of technology in education enhances the teaching and learning process. According to Collin's dictionary (2021), technology is the methods, systems, and devices which are the result of scientific knowledge being used for practical purposes. Technology is changing fast. Rather than create dependencies and turn students into submissive robots, as many fear, technology may be leveraged to enable greater autonomy and develop real leadership skills among students. Technology enhances teaching, by using teaching/learning materials to bring across the content in a coherent manner where students can fully grasp the concepts/content. Technology in education mitigates distractions in the learning environment as students are focused on the different methods used to give content information whether it be a YouTube video, a PowerPoint, a Ka hoot game for an evaluation activity etc. 

    Looking at the current state, where there is a pandemic, education could have been affected more significantly but technology has broken many barriers. Technology allows students from anywhere to access their classes using the different platforms. There are some subjects that students have a hard time grasping the content without the implementation of technology, but the minute technology is incorporated there is a shift. Technology facilitates the different learning styles whether you a visual, auditory, kinesthetic, or musical learner. The different learning styles being catered to is a critical part in education. It does not matter how well you can teach, if the information is not presented in the way students best learn they will be unable to retain and apply information.     I strongly believe that using technology in education speeds up and enhances the teaching and learning process, caters to all learning styles and breaks down educational barriers.

            In the month of September each students attended their first Educational Technology classes where they are assigned to different lecturers in different groups. I was introduced to Educational Technology by Mr. Rohan Simpson. Our first class we were asked to introduce ourselves; stating our names, where we are from and our expectations of doing this course. I introduced myself by saying "My name is Dionique Davidson. I am from the parish of Manchester, and I expected to get an A in this course. Majority of the said they just want to get an A while the minority stated they would love to know more about technology to enhance the teaching and learning process. In Educational Technology we were asked to create a  Photostory, Interactive PowerPoint, Podcast and WebQuest. We did not create all at once, what we did was create them individually and in pairs.
